I purchased this holder in July 2018 and have been using it for quite some time now. When I received this, I had an ASUS ZenFone AR with an emblem phone case (hard case on the outside, rubber on the inside). First off, I would like to say that this type of mount works better for some phones than others, and the case also plays a HUGE role in making this mount work for you. It took me some time of trial and error and trial and finally settled on using the supplied plastic sheet with a metal round disc on the outside of the case. To be honest it wasn't perfect, it looked ugly as the parts of the case that weren't covered in plastic had faded leaving a big bright red square surrounded by dull red, but functionally it worked fine and i never had a phone drop. Attachment while driving. Before settling on the plastic disk plus circle, I tried all the other configurations they offer. I used a large panel inside between the hard shell and the rubber. This partially worked, but the phone still fell when negotiating big enough bumps. I then tried using the small circle on the outside without the plastic as they suggested. Unfortunately that didn't work either as it didn't stick to the back of the case, most likely because the back of the phone was very slightly curved so I ended up with the plastic and metal washer option. I've switched the phones to Pixel 3a XL and I'm encountering the same issue that I had when I first got this mount. In the process I switched cases and when I tried to remove the metal disc from the back of the old case, the plastic I used to glue the disc to the case was completely destroyed. I've since put a metal washer in my case and it's not enough to hold the phone by the vent, although it's lighter than a phone than ASUS and the case is thinner than the Badge's in my opinion. Try the metal square in the box, kill me I can't find the box it was in and I can't find the metal square they contained. It's disappointing that the discs appear to be disposable and seem very situational at best if they would work with your case, mainly in my situation as I can't tape them to the outside of the case as 1) it's cloth and 2 ) Although I would have a plastic case, I no longer have a plastic sheet with a metal disc stuck to it. In the end, if you get this mount, make sure you're using a phone and phone case that you plan to keep for a while, or that the case is thin enough that you don't have to go to extremes like I did with the I've done plastic wrap and metal disc as they seem really consumable because if you don't it can be quite dangerous if the phone falls off while driving. One such example for me was when the phone suddenly fell off the holder while I was using the metal disk in it, one of the times it fell off on my way home from work around 6:30pm I started jerking from a stop to get up the intersection to drive a red light and a phone just fell. I tried to catch the phone with my right hand and accidentally pushed the shifter. Shifting the car into neutral while going through an intersection was also pretty darn scary and unexpected.
