Get 100% better photos with these genuine Canon lens caps. It just doesn't work without it. But seriously. They protect the most valuable thing in your camera bag. your glass! Do you have to have them? no Can you do without? Yes. Are you more likely to put on lens caps when you're done? Probably no. (old habits are hard to break). Are they overpriced? Which Canon product isn't? (and don't say fifty sparingly) FYI: They're thicker than previous lens caps. At least twice as thick. Something to consider when it comes to camera bag logistics. New lens cap thickness: only 0.42 inch, about 0.3 inch when attached. I bought a new lens and once I was convinced how much better it was I went broke and bought a couple for my other lenses. In general my lenses look a lot more luxurious now :) If only I knew what to do with my old caps.
