The flaps do not fall under the weight of ordinary debris, so the debris is on the lid.

I love the jars that come with them but these lids are terrible. First I ordered two and received one. the top of the lid. You have to rely on the doors to drop down and no one wants to touch the top of the bin. It's not the nice soft flexible plastic that a suitable basket is made of, it's hard, brittle and poorly made. I ended up removing the flaps (easy to do as they just fit into the notches below) and used the rim to better hold the bag in the jar, but it's an expensive bag holder.
