Save money, learn to fix things!

That's it - I've dropped my phone countless times, but this time it flew out of my hand and the glass finally got dusty. The screen was still functional, but there were tiny pieces of glass in my fingers, so something had to be done. Good news: I was able to replace my screen in 24 hours for less than $30! I called several stores including my provider, Best Buy and iFixit, and they told me a little over $30 to insure my phone (but they would have to send it in to have it fixed since it's an old phone and they had no screen in the sale ) up to 180 dollars (!) for geeks from a big store. I use my phone for work so I need as little downtime as possible so shipping wasn't an option for me. Received this screen via Prime the next day and was able to replace it that same night! I won't lie - I've repaired laptops before but never repaired an iPhone and it does require some precision surgery and attention to detail, but I watched a YouTube video and made sure I got all my screws in order. Paper towel in the place indicated and everything went smoothly. I had to use my own suction cup because the one that came with it didn't work, but other than that there were plenty of tools, notably a spatula and screwdriver. The video helped identify a few tiny bits of metal that I probably would have lost had I not been warned about them in advance. I made sure to insert the shield very carefully at the end so as not to damage the replacement as I've read that some people have experienced this. In terms of optics, I noticed very little difference in quality (weird feeling like I'm seeing double?), but my eyes adjusted after a day or so. Overall I am very happy with this renovation!
