This thing is pretty awful. I don't believe the good reviews here. The key and latch mechanism to "unlock" a cat door is so finicky that you need it in the perfect spot to open the door. I myself can't get it to work 8 times out of 10, I have no idea how a cat can do that. When it finally appears to be active, most of the time the deadbolt is only half down, so the door still can't be opened. I just can't imagine my cats learning to open it. Also, the key should be hanging fairly low on the door, but all cat collars should be snug enough around the cat's neck or they'll lose it. So unless my cat sneaks very deep, she won't even notice there's a key nearby. Not a good design at all. The only positive thing is that it scares away the neighbor's cats. He just doesn't let his cats in by accident.
