Wish I had never bought this product. I have had to replace heater elements twice in about 3 years at a cost of about $250 for parts ($85 for 2 elements) plus labor per occurrence. I've invested about $1000 in this device and more failures are to come. The elements appear to be copper and corrode very easily. Ecosmart told me I had to take the elements off and soak them in vinegar about every six months to remove mineral build up, which I didn't know until now. No water heater should require such intensive and frequent costly maintenance. My plumber says the elements should be metal that doesn't corrode easily, such as stainless steel rather than copper. Do not buy this very poor device if your water does not contain minerals. I suggest sticking with the traditional electric or better yet gas water heaters that I've had in the past because they're a lot cheaper and are usually guaranteed to last 10-20 years with no problems. Ecosmart does not guarantee their items at all, perhaps because they know they are prone to breakage. You should at least tell customers who have minerals in their water not to buy their product.
