In 2016, Apple began the transition from Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3. Four years later, Apple *still* hasn't updated this adapter to support modern Macs. The only way to use this adapter is to buy an insanely overpriced adapter to upgrade from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2, which almost triples the price of this adapter. 3 is so expensive because inside it's a giant bunch of voltage converters to support Thunderbolt charging, which isn't even needed for this FireWire adapter. Upgrading this adapter to a native Thunderbolt 3 adapter requires only minor modifications. Nonetheless, four years later it still hasn't happened. It's time for Apple to seriously update this adapter and its Ethernet adapter for Thunderbolt 3. It really can't take four years to figure out how to replace a 6 inch cable and (maybe) transceiver chips on both ends. I know it's not as cool as working on a new MacBook Pro design or something, but a lot of people rely on these adapters, and it would be really nice not to chain adapters together just to get something done. Unfortunately, Apple's FireWire adapters are literally the only play in town (unless you can find a long-discontinued 13-port OWC Thunderbolt dock, though they usually sell used ones for a higher price compared to these). how much they cost new and also apparently quite unreliable). Nobody else builds for money. Too bad Apple doesn't take its professional users seriously enough to neglect these adapters year after year.
