Works great so far on my Thunderbolt 2 iMac

I have an iMac and it doesn't come with FireWire to transfer files from an old mini DV camcorder so I finally got this adapter, it works great with Thunderbolt 2 on my iMac, I use High Sierra on my iMac and have the latest update for my macOS. So far, the program has recognized and imported films from the camera without any problems. That's all I needed. So I am very satisfied with the product. A lot of people here have complained that this isn't working for them, I assume they were using a…

Pros

Doesn't work with my Windows 10 MSI Gaming Laptop

Not that I don't like it. After all, it's a nice little Apple product that unfortunately doesn't work with my MSI laptop running Windows 10. I was hoping that this adapter would allow me to use the firewire-based Nikon Coolscan 4000 on my new MSI laptop , but since Windows 10 doesn't work that doesn't support the Firewire driver, I can't get it to work. I tried the advice of installing older Windows 1394 drivers, but after following these instructions very carefully, I still don't see "IEEE…

Pros
  • So far so good
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Why hasn't Apple updated it for Thunderbolt 3 yet?

In 2016, Apple began migrating from Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3. Four years later, Apple *still* hasn't updated this adapter to support modern Macs. The only way to use this adapter is to buy an insanely overpriced adapter to upgrade from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2, almost tripling the price of this adapter. 3 is so expensive because inside it's a giant bunch of voltage converters to support Thunderbolt charging, which isn't even needed for this FireWire adapter. Upgrading this adapter…

Pros
  • nice touch
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something
