In 2016, Apple began migrating from Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3. Four years later, Apple *still* hasn't updated this adapter to support modern Macs. The only way to use this adapter is to buy an insanely overpriced adapter to upgrade from Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2, almost tripling the price of this adapter. 3 is so expensive because inside it's a giant bunch of voltage converters to support Thunderbolt charging, which isn't even needed for this FireWire adapter. Upgrading this adapter to a native Thunderbolt 3 adapter requires only minor modifications. But four years later, that still hasn't happened. It's time for Apple to give this adapter and its Thunderbolt 3 Ethernet adapter a serious update. It really can't be four years before they figure out how to use a 6-inch cable and (maybe) the transceiver chips on either end replaced. I know it's not as cool as working on a new MacBook Pro design or something, but a lot of people rely on these adapters, and it would be really nice not to chain adapters together just to get something done. Unfortunately, Apple's FireWire adapters are literally the only play in town (unless you can find the long-discontinued 13-port Thunderbolt OWC dock, though they usually sell used for more than what they cost .in new condition and also apparently quite unreliable). Nobody else builds for money. Too bad Apple doesn't take its professional users seriously enough to neglect these adapters year after year.
