Review on Saris Bones 805 2 Bike Trunk by Mike Roe

Revainrating 5 out of 5

5000+ miles. 2 different cars. Highly recommended.

I have used this luggage rack for over 5000 miles traveling across the States. Most of that was spent on the 2010 Ford Focus, but now some of the time is being spent on the CR-V. Needless to say, I'm very confident that this thing will hold bikes fairly securely. I would recommend this pose or any other pose designed by Saris. I'm really impressed with its design and features. Installation is very easy and hard to mess up. The design is such that it is extremely difficult to fail catastrophically (the entire trunk detaches from the car and falls onto the road). I mean the bottom two legs and the top two straps carry the load. They are the most important parts of the rack and take into account the weight of the bike and the g-forces. The top leg and two bottom straps are for stopping power only, while the side straps are for stability only. There was a point where I got very tired from riding, put the bike on a rack, rode about 200 miles and then realized I forgot to put the side straps on when I was gasping. The trunk can scratch the paint because of the metal hooks, but I haven't noticed a single scratch on any of my cars. This thing has rubber on the legs, so there's no chance of it scratching.

Pros
  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • Some trouble
