This bike rack is ideal for small children's bikes with bars, but not for adult bikes. Most hybrid, dirt, or cruise bikes have a crossbar that slopes downward, so you'll need a handlebar adapter like the Swagman, otherwise the rear wheel will be high in the air and the bike won't be balanced on the rack. I have used this luggage rack for over 5000 miles traveling across the States. Most of that was spent on the 2010 Ford Focus, but now some of the time is being spent on the CR-V. This bike rack is well designed and I particularly like how the straps go through the hollow center so when the straps are tightened opposing forces are used to secure the rack to the car. This rack also received excellent reviews across the board, but after experimenting with fitting it to my car (Toyota Matrix 2010) it didn't work for me. With 5 moving legs, 6 straps and poor instructions that kept me wondering if it would fit properly in my car, I found it very difficult to work in practice.
