I bought this pencil sharpener as a birthday present for a colleague. His favorite electric pencil sharpener died and after using a manual sharpener (disgusting) for a few months I couldn't take it anymore and bought him an Avalon. Compared to the dead 80's style sharpener, this is the pinnacle of writing instrument technology. You put the pencil on it and immediately Avalon takes over. He lowers the pencil, sharpens it to a fine point (works fine every time), and then hands the pencil back to you. All in all, it's a pretty cool process. My only problem? It's noisy. Like, SUPER loud. Our office of four has a rule that this cannot be used while someone else is on the phone. If that factor isn't a problem for you, I say go for it. This is a cool mechanism and does a great job of sharpening. But it's definitely not suitable for a quiet/general office environment. Oh, and a little tip: let the sharpener do its thing. DO NOT try to pull out the pencil after dropping it. He will oppose you.
