I have a horrible mold allergy in the summer as air conditioning is the main cause of mold which I am allergic to. In Arizona, our air conditioners run 24 hours a day from June through September. Did I notice a difference with this one on my bedside table? no I still wake up stuffy, sneezing, coughing, and with watery and itchy eyes. This product is more like a cute backlit fan. There aren't many internal components and they seem too small to make an impact in every room of the house. It also seems strange that the bottom is an empty jar with holes. Has a small round indentation in the bottom center as shown in my picture which gives me the feeling that something is missing or that this product originally had a different use. I have a large $300 ionic air purifier at home, so I guess I'm comparing my rating to that. I was expecting this item to be similar in components, only MUCH cheaper and smaller. I will say that after using this for a few nights and opening it up there seems to be some dust on the filter. However, even my mini cosmetic fridge forms a layer of dust on the fan. So does my large fan and ceiling fan. In AZ this cannot be avoided. So I'm giving it 4 stars because the filter collects it and moves it into my jeep's cup holder as a room that size seems more ideal for it. But then again, I don't expect the allergy symptoms to change with something like that. As for the HEPA filter, most HEPA filters are designed to be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. This filter is retractable so I could clean it with my special vacuum filter brush that came with my Bionaire. I'm not worried about replacing a filter of this size as I can't imagine the unit would last long even for that.
