My cat is a choker, by the standards it should fit well and maybe we could go out and do some new exercises to help him lose weight. I didn't expect him to love it right away but it doesn't suit us at all, he has a short neck and although the neck fits around his neck it's too long and tries to strangle him. The chest measures 16 inches and should fit snugly but I couldn't get the magic over the edge and it was too tight to be comfortable, the clip was fine but looked very silly without the velcro and wasn't very practical . If you have a long cat that isn't as fat as mine this should work fine, but if it has some weight and the neck isn't much the only thing that stands out is its body shape, not its weight, even like a kitten it had no big neck, that should work fine for you, unfortunately it didn't work for us at all
