Quick Fix for Stability Problems!

It took my cat a few days to get used to this, but once she got the hang of it (with a little help from toys and treats to tempt her one shelf at a time) it became one their favorite places. There is a ledge above my closet door and this climber allows my cat to climb right on top of what she loves. Like many other reviewers, I initially had noise and stability issues. I followed the prompt to pause after tightening each new screw and came back to re-tighten all the others before moving on to keep the construction itself tight and as solid as possible. The problem just seemed to be that the brackets were made for a much thicker door than mine, so the whole structure was held off the door rather than being flush with it. I saw a few people suggest putting some cardboard in to fill the gap, but I found it messy. My new solution? hot glue and some wine corks. I found two wine corks of the same length and put them in the slot behind the climber and attached them with a dab of hot glue to the inside of one of the center shelves, one at each end. . (I just glued them to the shelf, not the door itself.) The plugs are actually slightly longer than the gap, so I had to get the climber to lean just a little, and that actually means there's a there is slight tension. This will help keep the corks in place even without glue. This pretty much solved the whole problem by getting rid of the ugly box or straps. I have attached photos to show the results. The climber still makes a little noise when the kitty is pacing up and down like crazy, but it's no longer loud or moving while climbing. The only other downside is how easily the fabric covering the shelves gets scratched and fuzzy, but that was probably inevitable. One day I might have to restore them with something, but it doesn't matter now. Pros: The cat LOVES this thing. Easy to assemble and attach to the door. Easy to remove or rearrange on another door when the time comes. durable with connectors to hold it together, it's both strong and quiet. Significant space savings for a small apartment. Profitability. Cons: Requires a little "tuning" to be stable enough and quiet enough to use. My purchase and would buy it again anytime.
