Review on ☕ OXO Brew Conical Burr Coffee Grinder: Perfectly Ground Coffee at Your Fingertips! by Brandon Guidroz

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The most disappointing coffee product I have ever bought

To put it bluntly and simply, the OXO BREW conical coffee grinder is the worst product I have ever bought online from Revain. Also, my wife emailed OXO customer support about the poor quality of this product and their support team refuses to refund or replace the product. We have provided them with both videos and photos which show that without much troubleshooting the device is either working very poorly or not working at all. However, their engineers replied that the device works "normally" on video (I will attach one of them to this review). At this stage, however, the machine doesn't function without frustration - turning the machine on and off multiple times or sweeping the burrs multiple times just to grind enough beans for coffee. Even though I've only had this device for a month, I see no other option but to throw it in the trash and buy a more expensive device from another manufacturer. I am an avid coffee maker and have had other coffee products from Bonavita, Hario, Mr. Kaffee, Küche and OXO. I can unequivocally say that this OXO coffee grinder is the worst coffee product I have ever owned or purchased. I will attach video and photo evidence that the block is not working properly and further explain the problems with the block. Initially, the block worked perfectly. For the first week, the machine reliably and evenly ground Trader Joe's Ethiopian Beans ($8.99 per bag). Then the problems started the second week when I started grinding Stumptown Hair Bender Beans ($15.99 per bag). The device stalled in the middle of a cycle for the first time. The button on the front of the device would not start the motor, so I tried to troubleshoot the device in a variety of ways, following the instructions in the owner's manual. I unplugged it and plugged it back in - the start button still doesn't work. I opened the bean container and nothing stuck. So I finally opened up the burrs and swept them out. When I reassembled the device it worked and I thought the problem was solved. However, over the next week, every time I used it with Stumptown beans, the device would lock up. Sometimes it was hung up several times in a row. Each time I had to open the device and sweep out the burrs to get it working. While this process was extremely tedious and time-consuming, it also caused the machine to produce an uneven grind size. I've attached a picture showing that I get chunks of beans in my pourover because I have to play a tricky game with the machine to make it work. For a device that regularly costs around $100, that's totally unacceptable for a new product. If a $100 grinder can't be used on a premium product like Stumptown, then this grinder is utterly useless to coffee lovers. initially worked well with the device). Now I'm starting to have the same issues with Trader Joe. To grind 5 tablespoons of beans for a large coffee, I had to either: (1) open and clean the grinders multiple times, or (2) cycle the machine on and off multiple times as it grinds for about 3 seconds before jamming. even if the timer is set to 30 seconds. I have attached a video showing how the device works in this way. In the video you see a game that I just have to play to grind beans with a machine that was only bought 3 weeks ago. Here is my personal take on machine performance issues. My guess is that the motor has a failsafe that will stop the motor if it is clogged. This will prevent the motor from being damaged if a very small stone or hard bean gets caught in the grindstones (which can happen on rare occasions). I suspect that this setting is not quite correct for my device and that the device will stop at any slightest resistance to the motor. This explains why I have to turn the machine off multiple times to fully grind a cup of beans. In any case, it is completely unreasonable for OXO to expect users to have to troubleshoot a new device so frequently as part of the "normal" operation of the device. OXO is currently unwilling to solve my issues with this device, which is why I've decided to leave this negative review. I have never felt compelled to write a negative review for Revain. I hope they decide to improve the product and answer customer questions. At the moment I cannot recommend this product to other customers and I will no longer buy any OXO kitchen or coffee products. In the end, I decided I didn't even want a replacement for this unit. Even if OXO were offered to replace it, I would decline. This alone shows the extent of my frustration with the product. The general build quality feels cheap to me, especially the timer and start button on the front. I had an entry level Mr. Coffee ($30) for 7 years that "felt better" - button quality, product weight, engine noise, etc. If OXO decides to answer my questions, I'll only accept a full refund of the product's purchase price for me to buy it may be another device from another manufacturer. UPDATE: OXO finally agreed to refund us for the device after I posted this negative review and video on Revain. The return process took some time, but we ended up receiving a check in the mail for the full purchase price of the device. We will consider other ways to replace the device.
