Used to connect a 2017 Macbook Pro to a Lenovo HDMI monitor and Apple USB keyboard for over a year. It takes several connection attempts. I connected/disconnected, made sure there was no junk in the connections, restarted the computer and was annoyed that it took me 3-15 minutes instead of 2 seconds to get started. In any case, I eventually broke down and bought a more expensive CharJenPro key hoping to start the day without getting frustrated with something completely pointless. A new key works every time, just like my vacuum cleaner works every time it is plugged into an outlet. I'm a little sad that I went the cheap route and spent a lot of time trying a different one, but I don't quite understand the complexity of connecting the wires, so I didn't know any better. Skip the crap and find something that's USB-C compatible, and if you're using a Mac, Thunderbolt certified to save yourself the hassle.
