Review on Enhance Your Steering Wheel Control with the PAC SWI-RC Interface SWI-RC-1 by Matthew Shankar

It works in the end, but is it worth it?

Will it work? Yes. Is it working fine? Good enough. Installed on a 2001 Infiniti QX4 (identical to a 2002-2003 Nissan Pathfinder) with a JVC stereo, keeping the stock amp and Bose speakers (this requires a different unit but is unrelated to this part). However. Installation is a big problem. Annoyance to such an extent that I almost ended up installing it. SWI-RC is a universal steering wheel control interface. It works with most cars and most stereo systems. In theory, a great feature to brag about, but in reality it made installation even more difficult. The instructions provided were terrible but the ones on their website were better. So this thing came with a pack of resistors that were absolute junk, with flimsy wires that broke easily. It was fine, I was able to replace them with working ones (I work for a company that makes electrical wire harnesses). BTW, if you need to replace the resistors in this pack, use 1/4W resistors spaced about 200 ohms but no more than 2k ohms. 1/4 watt resistors per PAC, this is not documented anywhere. One of their technicians confirmed this to me when I called them. Unfortunately, because this wiring harness is designed for such a versatile fit, this is a bundle of wires only and you will need to connect the appropriate wires (listed on the documentation pages) for your car and stereo combo. I decided that I shouldn't cut my car's wiring, so I built a wiring harness to fit my needs using the connector on the back of my old stereo (like I said, the company I work for is blah blah blah). ). I would never have installed it without it. Once installed, programming was pretty easy and it works (mostly) well. For this reason, unless you have experience installing car stereos, assembling wire harnesses, soldering, etc., you should try to find one specific to your car. Use this as a last resort.

Pros
  • Provides an additional 2A, 12V output (CAN bus, LAN and Class II applications)
