These citrus peelers work well. As they are not metal although the edge will dull over time it was good to be able to buy multiple pieces in one order. I was considering sharpening a plastic blade but it didn't make sense in terms of time and money as plastic is not designed to be sharpened. However, we have years of use from our last purchase. What we do is use cutters to create shell segments to make them easier to remove. If you're careful enough, you can achieve the same result with a dull table knife, but not with such clean segments of skin. Just don't expect plastic cutting tools to last a lifetime. They won't, and after all, all plastics will degrade by themselves during their normal lifespan. All polymers are inherently unstable, but I've never seen this tool in metal, and metal can be more prone to cuts than flakes. I like clean peeling because I eat citrus fruits individually. My wife prefers just slicing oranges but these peelers work for both of us as no one wants to eat the peel although some can be used for slicing.
