I have two round fluorescent lamps in my kitchen. (You know, those round fluorescent tubes.) One lamp flickered for a long time and never fully lit, so I stopped using it. Another lit up after I cycled the switch multiple times. I changed the bulbs and saw no difference so I knew the ballasts needed replacing. Ballast is hard to find and it wasn't very cheap. Ballasts are also not that easy to replace. This dual light has a low profile so I decided to give it a try. I removed the round bulbs, removed the fixture from the ceiling, disconnected the wires, removed the ballast from the fixture, removed the clips holding the bulbs and drilled a hole in the center of the base. I bought some jam nuts and used them to mount this new light in the base because it didn't have a regular ceiling junction box. I connected the wires to the new lamp and attached it to the ceiling. Works like clockwork! Now you can simply replace the bulbs if necessary. One is gone, one stays. No more ballasts. Hooray!
