I'm wondering if I have a bad block? This works the first time you plug it in, but if you turn off the computer, or if you leave and the computer puts the monitor to sleep, it's game over and won't work again without going through some ridiculous ritual. For starters I need to turn off the monitor using the power button because the monitor never goes to sleep on PC command or when the PC is turned off. The monitor keeps showing "Test Pattern". If the PC is on but has the monitor hibernating, you're done. Normally you have to wiggle the mouse to bring the display back, but not with this adapter, the display never comes back. Rebooting the PC doesn't help, abruptly turning the PC off and on doesn't help, only unplugging the two ends of the adapter and plugging it back in brings the display back. The only way to restore the display is to unplug the adapter from the PC, and then unplug the monitor from the adapter. Then reconnect the adapter to the PC and then reconnect the monitor cable to the adapter. All of this has to be done with the PC turned on, which makes me nervous as you should never plug or unplug DVI cables from the graphics card while it's on. You risk damaging your graphics card and/or your computer. This procedure works every time to restore display output, but doing it every time the monitor goes to sleep or the computer is cycled is just ridiculous. UPDATE (8-9-18): I have contacted the seller. and they gave me a discount code to buy another adapter that covered everything but a dime. I paid my money for a new adapter and waited for it to arrive. I tried the new adapter and found that it works better than the original adapter, but still not perfect. At least now I don't have to disconnect and reconnect cables every time the monitor goes to sleep or I turn off the computer. That part is fixed, but the monitor still doesn't go to sleep like it should. I still need to turn off the monitor after turning off the PC or when I leave the PC for a long time. I'll just stick with what I have until I can replace the monitor with one that has the correct DVI connector. Up my rating by 1 star for good customer service and a product that works ALMOST properly.
