A few minor comments, but overall it does what it says on the tin

First of all, it's worth knowing that this isn't a replacement for Dynamat damping. If you're looking at this because you want to save weight while adding noise isolation, this might be a good option. However, if you set it up the same way as limited cushioning layer products (Kilmat, Dynamat, other -mat products that come in 30lb boxes) it will definitely disappoint. It can't do much to dampen door panels, trunk floor, etc. It just doesn't have the bulk to do it, and nobody seems to have figured out how to do it without bulk. However, it does an excellent job of blocking heat and does a decent job of absorbing and blocking noise, filling voids and large air gaps. This product is thick and spongy and quickly springs back when squeezed. It also helped get rid of wrinkles and creases quickly. It also doesn't crumble when cut. The foam is clearly of high quality with the exception of one complaint. During assembly, I accidentally touched the protruding adhesive several times. Usually, when I peeled the foam off by hand, a thin layer of foam was left behind because the foam would break before the adhesive could separate. While you definitely need a strong adhesive, the problem is that it takes very little effort to peel off. The foam is a little flimsy and this can cause installation frustration. In the description of this product it says soundproof which I think is a big mistake. It's a good vibration dampener, but a poor damping material. It traps heat and fills air gaps, which often transmit more sound than the surfaces people try to drown out. It would also make an excellent decoupling layer between the surface and the bulk vinyl, and the film would add some strength, cleanability, and abrasion resistance. If you have a good idea of what half an inch of foam will and will not do, I highly recommend this product. If you're looking for a cheaper or lighter alternative to a 25-pound butyl or vinyl box, this doesn't help.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
