Ideal for car roof insulation

I was doing the headliner on my Saturn car and found there were empty pockets between the headliner and the roof. I filled them in while waiting for headliner material. Sonic foil is very easy to cut and shape properly so I had no problem filling the space. I think it helped a bit against the noise, the roof isn't the best place, but I'm more hopeful that the car is a little better at keeping the cabin warm and cool.

Very light - spare parts

I have used other sound absorbing products before. This one is a little different. The ones I've used in the past have been thinner, heavier, and had a more rubbery texture. It's a bit thicker and foamier. I confess I couldn't wind it up like the instructions say. I have a Jeep and the subwoofer enclosure is plastic and too flexible. The bass makes it gasp. I tried stuffing the body with fiberfill but it still rattled. I've used this to try and stop the vibration and it seems to be working…

Case should be fine

The version without the film seems to be well reviewed so I'm sure it could be a lot better. I hit the side of the foil with a small butane torch (which is MUCH over heating specs) and there was very little heat transfer. The foam will burn, but it goes out badly and quickly on its own. The backing is very sticky so I'm confident it will stay in place if the surface is properly prepared. It was still sticky near the edge where I burned it, so the glue itself seems to have some heat resistance…

Works very well, unlike some sound deadening materials.

If you're like me you have experience with Dynamat and other bitumen based sound absorbers. It's a whole different ball game, folks. Dynamat is a thinner and very durable material. This is a thicker insulating foam. Aside from the foam part, it's aluminum coated and very sticky, just like the competition. He's just plump like foam. This works REALLY well under car carpets, so if you're doing carpet soundproofing I would use it almost exclusively under carpets. Of course, this works in other…

Thin, sound deadening foam liner does the job perfectly

This foam liner is great for automotive projects and many other uses. I'm repairing an old boat and there is plywood paneling for the inboard motor. I got this for his interior. This PE foam with an aluminum foil outer shell is easy to measure, cut, apply and works great! The liner is only 0.3 inches thick. It comes on a roll nearly 16 inches wide and 165 inches long. The sticky side is covered with rubbing paper that you peel off. I placed the pieces in the box I wanted to encase, cut them to…

Good lightweight alternative to butyl for sound deadening

I usually use dynamat or butyl, a hard, thick, dirty soundproofing material that I almost always use to mount my car audio system on the doors, on the truck, and sometimes on the underbody. It's a much lighter material and uses foam to absorb sound waves rather than stiffening the panels. I've used it on the door panels of a car I've just replaced some of the speakers in and it really helps with noise isolation and even reduces road noise a bit. The adhesive is good and sticks to any clean…

Self-Covering Foam PE Sheet, Foil Faced, 15.75 " x 165 " Roll Soundproofing

When I travel, road noise can be a nuisance as my car is older. This is a good sized roll of sound deadening closed cell PE foam with a foil face and an adhesive backing that is reasonably heat resistant. I can fit it into the door panel - lots of work - or install a subwoofer around the trunk to reduce rattling. It's possibly less sound deadening than the denser closed cell butyl foam I've seen. This requires thorough surface cleaning and degreasing as it will not adhere well to a waxed, dirty

  • Absolute Legend

  • There are problems

A few minor comments, but overall it does what it says on the tin

First of all, it's worth knowing that this isn't a replacement for Dynamat damping. If you're looking at this because you want to save weight while adding noise isolation, this might be a good option. However, if you set it up the same way as limited cushioning layer products (Kilmat, Dynamat, other -mat products that come in 30lb boxes) it will definitely disappoint. It can't do much to dampen door panels, trunk floor, etc. It just doesn't have the bulk to do it, and nobody seems to have…
