Excellent antenna for AV accessories

Perfectly angled antenna for 2m and 70cm ham radio bands. I've tightened the set screws to ensure it stays in tune and I suggest doing the same. If adjustment is ever needed, loosen the set screw just enough to allow the lower member to slide with some friction. Set up 2m first, then set the top element to 70cm. Tighten screws. Easy. My first tests consisted of moving the antenna inwards and using a window air conditioner as the ground plane. I did a long simplex QSO with a friend of mine who lives over 30 miles away. Mind you, that was with the antenna inside. The track was noisy, but we copied each other without any problems. Of course, being on the 11th floor has a lot to do with being able to reach my friend's station, but I still had a great first impression of the antenna. I tested the SWR on the 2m and 70cm ham bands, was happy with the results, and hooked it up to a cheap Chinese dual-band amp in my car. My mobile setup puts out 20/25 watts UHF/VHF and the performance with this antenna is excellent. I haven't tested broadband (ie non-resonant) reception performance with my scanner and probably never will - I use a different antenna for that. FYI, this is the same antenna as the Browning BR-180 but with a matte finish. black version. I'm not a big chrome lover and I think this model looks better on my car. This is a high antenna. I use a Nagoya RB-50 as a base and the massive magnet keeps it going at high speeds. I recommend a 5" base if you want to mount this on a magnetic mount. This thing will positively reduce your car's ground clearance. When driving a truck or SUV, you must be careful not to get hit by objects. I drive a Subaru Crosstrek and just turn the entire antenna/base on its side before parking in my garage. I hit a few public parking spots when I was in too much of a hurry to remove the antenna and it bounced back every time - literally . There is no damage. I expect this antenna to take a beating, last, and last a long time.

GREAT antenna, but limited durability and no support!
