Review on ๐Ÿ’พ Toshiba DT01ACA050 500GB 7200rpm SATA 6GB/s Internal Hard Drive - Reliable and High-Speed Storage Solution by Alvin Sia แ Œ

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I like everything, the price and the quality are both ok.

I took it for 1000 from my hands with a range of 300 hours / 70 inclusions, the production date was almost 20 months before purchase. Smart by registers 01, 05, 07, C4, C5, C6 by zeros. There were errors in C7 and other small, not significant ones. After connecting, there was a strong general hum and a stable sinusoidal, sooo annoying. I accidentally discovered in the BIOS that I have it connected to the sata3G connector instead of sata6G, of which I have only two on the asus microATX motherboard. sata mode in ahci. After the reboot, the sine wave disappeared. Apparently, the disk tried to spin up, rested against the limitations of the controller and slowed down cyclically. In general, now you can live. The general rumble remained, Iโ€™ll try to stupidly put it inside on a rubber anti-slip mat for phones in the car without screwing it so that it doesnโ€™t transmit further to the case. I donโ€™t know if itโ€™s calibration or mechanics. Temporary WD with bads (given away for free, but I installed until there is no replacement for the dead Seagate) is quieter.

Pros
  • Massive use of HDD Toshiba/Hitachi in the enterprise, supposedly due to reliability. Visually, it looks like a clean, even quality (the former Seagate was carelessly processed from below), only the contacts on the printed circuit board are oxidized too early.
Cons
  • Noise / hum in idle (disk just installed, empty and not primary). Vibration is transmitted to the body, floor, through the air. Tiring, annoying.
