Fixed 2010 Altima starting problems and ABS light

Worked great! My 2010 Nissan Altima with start button stopped working properly. Sometimes I had to slam on the brakes for 5-10 minutes trying to start. My ABS, VDC is off and the skid warning lights come on for 30 seconds even after a gear/drive change. The dashboard kept saying I had to step on the brake to start, even when it was pressed. It turns out that several year old Altimas (and several Nissan models) have a faulty brake switch. I don't know if all models with broken switches have a start button or not. Regardless, a faulty brake switch (brake light switch) causes this problem. A standard Nissan part is $50, this generic part is $20. The problem apparently stems from a defective wiring harness, which costs $250 to $300. To completely (and perfectly) fix this problem, the retailer will charge you about $600. OR you can just buy a replacement brake switch and replace it when it fails, which happens after 5+ years or 50,000+ miles. I obviously went with it because buying $20 parts every 50 years makes a lot more sense than paying a dealer $600 to fix a defective part that should have been recalled. The installation takes about 1-2 minutes. On my Altima, the brake switch was on the left just behind the brake pedal; The cruise control switch looks the same and is on the right side. Note the approximate distance from the power switch bracket/position. Rotate the left switch 45 degrees and it will release. Disconnect the cable, connect from above; Don't forget to press the latch when removing. Install a new brake sensor at the same distance from the brake pedal. Rotate it 45 degrees and reconnect the cable connector. I checked my car several times to check the start and then slowly drove around to check the brakes. Started on the first try, all warning lights on the dashboard went out. The perfect inexpensive tool!
