I have a rainbow. Those of you familiar with Rainbow know how powerful she is and that few can capture as much as she does. That's a beast. I also have an Australian Shepherd that I can swear shoots fur out of his body like a porcupine shoots quills at a predator. I was moving from a fully carpeted house to one with only carpet in the bedrooms and laminate floors everywhere else. The Rainbow is a very heavy duty vacuum and I am 74 years old and weigh about 100 pounds. I decided that my life would be a lot easier if I could find a good handheld vacuum that I could use most of the time and just need to get my Rainbow out in my bedroom. My usual vacuum test is to take a new vacuum, spend a lot of time using it in a small area, and then do a run through with the Rainbow to see if anything gets left behind. 99% of the time, A LOT is left behind. After researching stick vacuums, trying the latest offering from Dyson's main competitors and immediately returning it, I decided it had to be Dyson or nothing at all. And after reviewing Dyson's offerings, I decided their latest version was the most powerful and could handle my Rainbow test. Surprisingly, this is true. Not only did it make short work of the laminate, but in its most powerful mode, it effectively left the Rainbow with nothing to pick up. I was shocked. This has never happened before. I got the Absolute model because people were upset that Dyson excluded their "fluffy" head from one of the models, and Absolute included it and the model with deeper cleaning bristles along with it. I also read that the absolute was more powerful than the beast, even for animal pelts. Before I had a vacuum, I figured I could keep hard floors clean with something like a Swiffer Wet Jet. You really can't. I go barefoot and no matter how I clean my Swiffer, it never feels like I've vacuumed it with a Dyson. And it's so fast. I can vacuum the house in just a few minutes. The low profile allows me to get under furniture and find spots where Ginger's hair collects. The house is MUCH cleaner. I have allergies and I can feel the difference. I wish I could pay less for a vacuum (she says she paid $2,500 for a Rainbow) but I really think the money I spent on the V10 instead of the V8 and the Absolute model was good was created.
