Difficult to remove the old cartridge!

What should have been an easy repair wasn't! It took a lot of work to remove the old cartridges. They were installed over 12 years ago and water build up has made it almost impossible to remove the plastic nut holding the cartridge in place. A special Moen tool is required to remove/install nuts. I ordered a special tool for the flare nut, but it didn't provide enough torque to loosen the nut on the hot water side unless I put my hand on the top and grabbed the barrel tool with a wrench to turn it. Plan to purchase a replacement nut kit as the Moen tool will easily chew through the old plastic. Luckily I bought a kit right away to replace the nut and cartridge extension as well as the cartridges from the start. Unfortunately, the special tool could not remove the nut, which remained stuck on my cold water side. The tool broke the plastic nut, rendering the tool unusable. The tool didn't work, but the plastic nut still had to be removed. I then removed the colored extension that was screwed onto the top of the cartridge so I could drive a chisel into the plastic nut. After the chisel was secured I used a wrench to grip the chisel to get enough torque to remove the plastic nut. After finally removing both the plastic nuts and the cold one, I was hoping that removing the cartridges would be easy, but the cartridges also got stuck. I followed the instructions I found on another post to hold the plastic extension with a wrench (which I had to reattach after pulling the plastic nut out with a chisel). Using a block of wood as a fulcrum and a long thin screwdriver as leverage (guided by a locking key) I was finally able to pry out the old cartridge. cartridge to sit in a recess in your pipe. After aligning it with the notches, it will take a little pressure or pressure to get it in place. If you do not firmly attach the notch, your faucet handle will rotate after installation and not stop in the water on/off position as intended.
