fi-7160 but the price was prohibitive . Epson offered an inexpensive (1/5 the cost of a new scanner) solution. One day I'll have a moment in the office with my Samsung #@$^ing multifunction POS printer, but for now my Epson DS-530 is still in production; a task I thought only Fujitsu could do. Most people might not think this is a fair $300+ price tag, but after using this Samsung for two years, I willingly coughed up shellfish. Setup was easy, although I did exactly what the instructions didn't say (connected to USB before installing the Epson drivers). I uninstalled the windows driver and rebooted, this time following the instructions, and voila! Fujitsu continues to lead the software space with its ScandAll Pro program; but here, too, the price left an incredibly large gap. I was able to scan credit cards, checks, driver's licenses, duplex, pictures, etc. . no problem. The image stitching feature is very useful for receipts and cards - it combines the front and back images into one document or image and allows the user to designate whether they are side by side or top and bottom. You can set up scan profiles so users don't have to constantly change settings. Users can send email messages directly from the scanner, although neither the document nor the text of the message can be modified after scanning. However, a canned text and subject can be set up in the profile to skip repetitive typing. I think the email address book is fetched from Outlook. I may have had to export contacts from Outlook and import them into Document Capture Pro. Anyhow, it was easy. Scan profiles can be configured to save scans to specific folders and names of the user's (or administrator's) choice. You can add the date, date and time, and repeating numbers of up to 5 digits to the file name. There is a barcode symbol option as well as OCR recognition for those who scan the information in the same place every time. Mine are scattered all over the place so I can't play around with those options. Checks and other thin paper are easy to scan. There is a button on the scanner that slows down the scanning speed when pressed. Click again to speed up the process. The speed is great - I get nice scans at 300 dpi and it's fast. I use Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and so far it has integrated well with the DS-530. Overall I'm happy with it and am only more critical of the software because I used to use ScandAll Pro, which is fairly well-written software that has more features than the average user would ever need. I'm not a power user, but I enjoy tweaking settings and making life easier with features like skip blank pages, auto skew, hole fill, border fill, etc. . and ScandAll Pro is like a playground for me. 20180813: Update: I'm still happy with this scanner. I sometimes have a crash where I have to turn it off and on again. I didn't have to restart my computer to fix the problems, just the machine, so that's a big bonus. It's a truck straight ahead. For half the price I have a scanner that works just as well as the Fujitsu scanner I wanted. My only regret is that I didn't buy a Wi-Fi model to share the USB port. Again, this is a bit of a problem for our home office as we can easily connect to each other's computers. I've been able to experiment with OCR recognition and I have to admit that some help is needed. I have a document where the order number is entered in the same area every time and none of the OCR settings can read it properly. The field is alphanumeric and I think that's confusing OCR. It works slightly better with another document that only contains numbers, but is definitely not good enough to be called reliable. Maybe in a future update. Luckily you can view and reprint the results and save as filenames. The process is a little clunky, but it gets the job done. I also found the auto rotate feature which saved me quite a bit of time. I also have a default one button scan profile that works for most of my scans; However, if I go to the system tray and right click on the scanner, I can use one of my other scan profiles. That said, using other scanning options is quite easy and convenient. Overall, after 4 months of use, I'm happy with my purchase and would have made the same choice had I had a "remake". "
