I have JVC, AKG 240 Studio, Grado SR60i and Sony MDR V-600. I bought Sony a long time ago, about 15 years ago for about $100. Grados about 12 years ago. Two others recently. Sony doesn't even compare itself to these three, so I won't mention them again. The Grados have good detailed sound, but they lack bass and don't have a very comfortable fit on the ear despite their light weight. The AKG's sound signature is similar to Grados, but with lower frequencies. They sit comfortably on the ear, although they are a bit tight. The sound is very detailed, but perhaps a little thin, and the high frequencies are slightly emphasized. Although I really like these. I got the JVC yesterday and hooked it up right after listening to AKG. They were a lot louder due to their higher efficiency, so I turned the volume down. They have a much richer sound with tight bass. The bass is spot on, only extreme bass players want more. Its sound is also more natural, but perhaps not as detailed as AKG and Grados. I prefer the JVC sound and while they're bigger and heavier than everyone else, they're the most comfortable.
