Entry Level: Drills

I'm old enough to buy all Makita tools and then I switched to Dewalt about fifteen years ago when the Makita market started to shrink. . My Dewalt cordless motor driver is still as good as the day I bought it. I've probably paid three times as much for a Dewalt as this is worth, but this one definitely won't last fifteen years or even a fraction of that time. It's ok because I always have to keep it in our RV. It's a halfway decent drill, but they definitely cut some corners. For starters, the cloth case is a joke. It comes with cardboard inserts to give the case a rigid shape and to provide dividers. They fool no one, though, and after the cardboard wears out (after two days of actual use), you're left with discarded dividers with a bunch of stuff rattling around in a cloth bag. This is not the way to look after your tools, and it shortens the life of an already short-lived cheap fake. You need something to entertain yourself once the SINGLE BATTERY dies and you have to sit and wait an hour for it to recharge. Serious. Pooh. There are times in life when you need to cut corners and save money, and there are other times when you need to indulge and invest in your future. I expect my Dewalt motor to last a good ten years, but not this one. Even with very little use, I wouldn't bet this one will last more than a year or two. My wife can be quite blunt and doesn't even bother to get the names of some of the new people at work because she knows they won't be around much longer. That's how I feel about this cheap drill. I'm not even trying to find out his name.
