I bought this a few months ago and have used it a number of times to clean vias and remove soldered components. Works surprisingly well, especially compared to regular and cheap blue aluminum models or cheap hand-trigger desoldering irons (I have both other types). They work, but small cheap ones wear out (the plastic tips get chewed up and over time the plastic filaments wear out and it doesn't produce a good vacuum), and cheap soldering irons aren't temperature controlled and can burn through boards and pop up vias or marks. On the contrary, this device is built like a reservoir, offers incredible suction, and the soft silicone nozzle allows you to safely deliver heat and suction from the same side of the orifice, while maintaining excellent vacuum suction when you release the plunger. Compared to other devices, day and night, how much better does this one work. Is it more expensive than the cheap ones? Yes, and it's definitely worth it.
