Not enough backlight, poorly focused front light
The back light should help reduce eye strain by brightening the area behind the monitor, but it's barely noticeable. I was hoping I could stop using the lamps that light up my wall, but it was too dim for the task. However, the front light is fine if you adjust it so that it doesn't shine directly on your monitor. You'll find that this causes it to shine right into your eyes. I used a piece of tape to create a shadow so the light is only directed at my desk. The light hitting your desk could be a little brighter, but it's close enough. The real problem is that it shines in your face unless you put a small hood on it and the backlight is almost useless.
