Lots of light but unstable

I love the look of this lamp and it looks great in my living room. However, be careful when installing this. The center screw that goes through the octagonal ball is a bit short and as far as I can tell cannot be adjusted to make it longer. I was barely able to screw the end cap onto the bolt holding the globe in place. In fact, I could only turn it half a turn on the screw, so it was very loose. You cannot overtighten these bulbs as only 4 of the 8 glasses are touching the base and if you overtighten the nut these glasses will actually come loose from the other four leaving a 1/2 inch gap between the bottom glass and have the base . Once this happens, the orb of light is destroyed. I learned this the hard way when I drew the same light for my mom. When I bought one for my own living room, instead of over-tightening it, I took the metal ring that sits between the base nut and the glass sphere (which holds the sphere in place) and crushed it a bit with a hammer. The ring was originally just over 1/4 inch thick. Having flattened the center a bit gives me more room to tighten the nut without breaking the body of the ball. I managed to get two solid turns of the nut, which is enough to hold the globe securely. If you find yourself in the same situation with a short bolt, use this approach and don't over-tighten.
