Review on πŸš€ Unleash the Thrill: 4M 4605 Water Rocket Kit for Ultimate Aerial Adventures by James Hardy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great experiment, great growth, lots of fun.

I bought this kit after my 6 year old daughter started building Diet Coke rockets/cars and Mentos. The kit includes an air hose, a rubber stopper, fins and a ring for their connection, as well as a plastic bottle. Many complain that a rare pump is needed. I agree it was strange that the manufacturer used this type of valve, but luckily for me I have a bike pump with different nozzles. The hose is long enough to keep you dry during launch. After filling the bottle to the suggested mark (there are three lines on the bottle along which you can launch the rocket to different heights), I began pumping air into the bottle. After five or seven clicks, the rocket lifted off and effortlessly scaled the height of my four-story apartment building. If you launch it from a flat surface, the trajectory tends to go straight up and almost straight down. The instructions advise avoiding places with trees, cars and no electricity. I highly recommend following this as the start we did wasn't on level ground and we almost didn't hit the power line on the way back. As mentioned above, there are various tick marks on the bottle. We used these markers to test the difference in air-to-water ratio as a function of rocket launch altitude (to determine the amount of water that gives the best result). I will say it was educational as I was able to discuss pressure, pressure (at the most basic level) and some of the concept of balance with my daughter. This is what happens when dad is a nerd. Also, we took our Knex machine that we built and used with our Coke Diet Rocket and it powered the car a good distance. Finally, it works with any plastic bottle that has the same opening as the bottle that comes with it. We've also used 1 liter and 2 liter bottles and they worked.

Pros
  • Kit includes all parts and instructions needed
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
