Charge up your 90's nostalgia goggles!

For starters, there are a lot of references to the 90's in this review and if that's a problem, unfortunately you should stop reading. Although I'm only in my 20s and haven't seen the full glory of the decade that birthed the internet and Furby, like many others, I bought some Surge Coke for the nostalgia factor. As a kid in 1990s America before 9/11, I have fond memories of things that were great back then like: cap clothes, trying to put CD players in jean pockets, 007 Goldeneye for Nintendo 64, off-the-shelf purchases Retail, 3D Doritos, Solo Jazz Paper Cups, Sobe Drinks, Overalls, Godzilla Franchise Reboot Attempts, Pokemon Gold/Silver and Skechers Shoes. One thing noticeably missing from this list was Surge Cola, which I never tried as a kid. My parents never allowed me to drink soda as a kid and I only started drinking it as an adult, so trying Surge was a whole new experience for me. but I can't link as I've never tried it. I believe the Surge was all the rage in the second half of the 1990s before being phased out in the early 2000s and it's pretty cool to see it coming back from public demand. French toast crunch enjoyed a resurgence this year and will hit most store shelves in early 2015. The public has spoken out demanding the return of the Surge, and some very smart people have listened. When the news reached my circle of friends, some seniors were enthusiastic about the old Surge and recommended that I take the suitcase for a test drive. I wanted to buy a case from the first run when they first came to life but I hesitated and missed my chance as they were out of stock. Revane added something else and I pulled the trigger and got hold of one of the last cheap grenades. The thing arrived today. I only had one lemonade to start, so I had to think a lot when I drank it for the first time. The can itself is a 16 ounce green can with lettering and a retro 1990's comic book design. The jar looks like something out of the Simpsons; a fun throwback to the days of dial-up modems and geo-metros. Looks pretty cool, will keep the can to put on the shelf (I collect various brands of beverage containers that I've had through the years). I really didn't expect to be blown away by the taste. far, but I wasn't expecting it to suck, so I gave it a 4/5 rating. I'm sure many more serious reviewers will compare this drink to Mountain Dew/Mello Yello. It tastes like a mix of the two but with the smoothness of the latter and some "bite" of the former mixed with some citrus flavors. It has a strong flavor and is not too acidic or sweet. I wish it was more acidic, but it is. It's not bad taste at all! It goes fairly smooth, not as frothy as Mountain Dew and not as smooth as Mello Yello. Generally not a bad soda compared to its modern contemporaries. I read that the Surge is currently exclusive to Revain, so get it while it's still available! I got lucky and managed to get my case with Prime 2-Day Shipping for about $12, not a bad deal, about a buck a can or so. I see cases on sale at Revain going up to $40-$50 now and while I'm grateful for the good deal I got back then I didn't spend more than $15 a case, but I don't think it was great. Still, sipping soda and reminiscing about the Clinton administration and N-Sync days is fun, enjoyable, but after a while the honeymoon phase wears off. If you can get a case cheap, go for it, otherwise I wouldn't say it's worth the money. Millennials may remember enjoying that lemonade, but now they can try again. I hope some of you don't take my opinion to heart, because nostalgia glasses can blind you!
