Steve Martin's cruel shoes

How can a shoe be too big and too small at the same time? The length was a good size, size and a half too long and also too narrow. There is a bulge in the seam at the heel at the Achilles tendon that felt like a razor blade. Tried wearing around the house for a few hours. Painful. They look good though.

Purchased for my teen son for formal dance. He would rather have a "dress sneaker" than a dress shoe. More affordable than Cole Haan dress sneaker and since he lives in Van''s, it was a good alternative. He liked them.
