Make sure the entire strand is lit before you start to untie it. The instructions are not intuitive. I made the mistake of wrapping them around the pole where I was displaying them and when I got to the end and removed the wire from the box I found that the end of the solar panel was not even connected. to a long chain of lights. Both severed ends were twisted and not connected at all. Tried to connect them, pressed the power button, nothing happens. I had to request a replacement and send back the defective kit. The good thing is they include a printable returns label and cover return shipping - so keep the box etc until you're sure they work. They quickly sent replacements and arrived the next day. So my advice is: take out the box, remove the plastic from the solar panel, flip it over to block the light, press the power button and make sure the filament lights up before twisting the cord, and then test the different modes.
