Who would have thought that my dog only needs to be trimmed by its trusted owner, and not by a stranger? I cut my 1 year old Golden Doodle, Bailey myself with #7 and then #5 high cut adapter blades. At least you can see his eyes now. :-) Bailey was more used to cutting towards the end of the cutting session, so I think we'll both get better at it over time. At the age of one year and one month, this is his second haircut. After Bailey's first haircut, the dog groomers said it was too difficult to manage and they didn't think they could cut it again. They advised me to bring him some utensils so he could be calmed down before the haircut. He seems better off when someone he knows well does it. The care center insisted on washing, blow-drying and trimming him in one session. What a way to piss off a dog. Bailey becomes very hyperactive and violent after every bath. He needs a good night's sleep to dry off and settle down. He stays with us so I can bathe him the night before and comb and cut him the next day. Every time I give my dog a break, I re-oil the blade while clipping. After clipping my golden Astrakhan for the first time, I think next time I'll use the #4 blade adapter for his body and the #2 blade adapters around the mouth and under the chin. Purchasing this grooming kit was a decision for me after the dog grooming service couldn't handle my dog. Replacement blades and 4-ounce bottles of blade lube are very affordable at Revain, making it an affordable long-term solution rather than paying for maintenance services.
