Unlike DisplayPort to HDMI conversion, it's harder to find HDMI to DisplayPort conversion products (e.g. expensive since it's not just a matter of putting some wires in cross a cable but actually requires some electronics I went with this particular brand (Cable Matters) simply because it was the cheapest and had good reviews It works exactly as advertised I connected the unit to the HDMI output connected to the back of the computer and a DisplayPort cable connected between the device and the DisplayPort input on the back of the monitor. The device also has a USB socket and the device description on Revain says "The USB cable can be connected to USB power supply', so I plugged it into the USB port on the back of my computer to power it to v provide. Most likely some power is required to power the electronics of the device and the small amount of power coming out of the HDMI port may not be enough to do this. If you don't want to waste any of your computer's USB ports, you can plug it into a USB power adapter (i.e. like you plug in your cellphone for charging) either directly or with a USB extension cable. I booted up my computer and everything worked. There is no setting or anything like that. After a while I got curious if I really needed to keep it plugged into a USB port for extra power, so I decided to unplug it from the USB port to see what happens. Well, it still worked fine, so at least in my case it didn't take any extra power for my computer. If you need a device like this to go from HDMI to DisplayPort it's probably one of the cheapest you'll find and as I said it works great so there's no reason to spend more.
