I put it on my ankle or back, tucked it down and went to bed with it and it still works hours later. Most of them have a recommended shutdown time of 15 minutes. I don't remember this one working either, but it has worked for me for hours and is fine. I usually only use it on low settings, but it has a slider so you can adjust it to the speed that works best for you. I prefer the rechargeable because sometimes I leave it on and go to sleep. I've found that when I have a pulled or sore muscle, it makes a huge difference to just let it go and let it do its thing while the muscle heals. It has helped prevent trigger points in my back and relieves pain in my knees and ankles. It's not as good on the bones as some of the more expensive ones, but it's pretty good. I use it almost every day. I have three of these styles. The first lasted 2 years, the second about 5 months and the third about 2 years. The two that broke broke in at the same spot. The engine was actually still functional, but broke at the point where the engine was attached to the frame (four points). If you add some JB Weld Metallic Epoxy there, you can use this for a very long time. I expect it to still work 5 years later with daily use for an hour on low settings.
