I love the modern look of these lights, the dark bronze color is nice, smooth and not too shiny. Something between a matte and silky sheen. I used it to replace a cheap, dim apartment dome light at the top of my stairs. The light is VERY bright and a bit "shady" - we don't have a dimmer on this fixture and we don't use it for the main lighting in a given room. If I did I would definitely add a dimmer so they aren't so bright all the time. The lights can be easily rotated in any direction which is awesome! I can put some lights on the gallery wall going up the stairs and others in the hallway upstairs, on the landing and downstairs. My husband is a contractor so installation was easy for him. I can't attest to how easy it would be for the average homeowner. I could ask him to add a dimmer switch - I'll update this review when I do. I would buy it again but add a dimmer.
