Review on ✈️ Honeycomb Alpha Flight Controls Yoke with Switch Panel by Renee Hackbarth

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good roll, Pitch Boeing Max X. Hit it so hard you'll break your wrist.

Overall I gave this model 4 stars. By far the biggest problem is that the elastics are set too high/hard and not adjustable. I've contacted Honeycomb several times and they said it was designed that way based on engineering force measurements. However, raising or lowering the control yoke requires so much force that it appears the plane is very poorly trimmed at the other end. I fly 172's regularly and it's much more difficult than a real plane. Rolling from side to side is very easy and realistic. The collar seems solid. Didn't return mine and probably won't return mine because it's nice to have a real yoke for roll action, but it barely flies in pitch. You must always use the trim to steer the plane. I think they must have measured 172 with broken handlebars or something. Overall the reel is perfect and the good thing is that it turns left and right very far but I cannot recommend the product until honeycomb takes complaints about step stiffness seriously. I have no idea how they felt it was realistic. With such a hard kick, I would turn a real plane into a shop in an instant. To edit:. I decided to leave my original review above, but as I used it and continued flying real 172s, this yoke started to bother me. It mimics pitch better than I originally thought when testing the 172s in flight. I was too harsh with my first review. The pitch of the fork is quite stiff, which forces you to undercut a lot, but that's reasonably realistic as you're often undercutting real ones too. I would recommend this yoke, just be aware that it can feel stiffer than you're expecting, especially at first.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
