Review on 72" Gray Leather Sofa Couch W/ Wood Feet - Amazon Brand Rivet Modern Deep by Kathy Jaramillo

After searching for a couch that was top grain leather on all surfaces, I decided to give these a try. Almost all leather furniture in this price range is only top grain leather on the seating areas and the rest is some sort of match (split, bonded, or vinyl). Having experienced having the seating areas still decent while the match surfaces all crumbled to pieces, I did not want to go through that again. I am thrilled to say this is actual high quality top grain leather on all surfaces (except the backs of cushions which are breathable fabric).Note that on the time of this review, Ebay has the wrong pictures for the "coffee” color of the sofa on the website. They are reusing the pictures from the grey color. If you switch it to the listing for chair, it will show the actual "coffee” color but in the chair, obviously, rather than the sofa. The grey has lighter colored wood legs, while the coffee has very dark brown legs. Having received the couch, I’d say in person, the color of the leather is a tad lighter than the pictures, but it is clearly a brown.I’ll say upfront that this couch is not for everyone. It sits fairly low, the back cushions are not very tall and the seating area is quite deep. If you intend this for formal sitting and want proper back/neck support, this is not the couch for you. However, if you primarily lounge on couches, this is a wonderful couch. Very comfortable.Another word about the leather: It uses what seems to be close to an aniline leather on all areas, or at least a lightly coated leather with less coating then some semi anilines. Aniline is a pretty high end leather, prized for its softness, conformance to body temperature, and for showing more of the flaws and surface variation of the hide. However, it is not as easy to live with as the cheaper and more common (in furniture) pigmented/protected leather. Aniline leather lacks much of the protective coating that you find on pigmented leathers. What this means is that aniline scratches easier, is very sensitive to sun damage, and is more prone to staining and dye bleeding/color transfer. Another thing aniline is prized for is that as it ages it assumes a distressed, patina look, assuming you take the time to take care of it. Regular conditioning will blend in the scratches that will occur over time and after a while, you will get a nice aged look. If you are looking for leather that is going to look pristine for a long time, don’t buy this couch or any other couch with aniline leather. If a more aged imperfect look is ok for you and you take care of it, this leather can last you a very long time.Let’s get to some more general details. The seat cushions are sewn in while the back cushions are removable. Back cushions have a zipper to allow access to restuff. Seat cushions do not. Since there is not leather on the cushion backs, they are not reversible. Seat cushions are foam and feel as if there is thin layer of down/feather wrapping it. There is just a small bit of give before you get to the firmness of the foam. Back cushions are fully down/feather. The interior "pillow" of the cushion is channeled to help the cushion maintain shape and loft.I’d rate build quality of frame, etc, as appropriate for the lower end of the mid-range segment. A step up from budget/value furniture, but below better quality in the upper middle and a far cry from premium high end furniture. Frame is mostly 11-layer furniture plywood with just some solid wood pieces. S-springs are used for the seat suspension and use a decent 5 inch spacing. Seat back uses webbing for suspension. As already mentioned, the leather is higher end then its price point and rates above the lower middle class of the rest of the couch. Although the couch is only 72”, with the arms only being 3” wide, the seating area is actually a surprisingly wide 65”, more width than a lot of couches of much larger overall size and enough space to seat 3. The wood legs are almost exactly 6” tall.I will also point out that this couch is made in China by a company called Kuka Home (aka Jason Furniture). Kuka actually manufactures most of the Rivet and Stone & Beam upholstery lines for Ebay and is a global OEM designer and manufacturer for various companies.Overall, I give this couch five stars for the value it brings at its price point. It gave me the full leather couch I desired at a price I could afford. I expect it will last me a good, long time.
