I changed this one because I changed the old hoses and thought I could change the old weathered regulator too! I upgraded my stove and fixed my water heater so I had to mourn and troubleshoot a bit to make sure that was the problem! First, the flame on my new stove seemed to be low, sometimes rising, then falling, then going out. At other times it would have worked fine. Sometimes my oven worked fine, other times it took forever or started turning on and off. Sometimes I found that my water heater was off. Thought I was out of propane, switched to another tank and everything seemed fine, then it all started again. Then I found that if I shut off the tanks, unscrew the hoses and plug them back in, only to start again after a short while. I just found my old one, went out in the hot sun and put it back in. Doesn't matter! Like day and night, beautiful steady flame! I think I have an expensive lemon :-( Can't talk about the switch function. I only use 2 regular 20lb tanks in a caravan, I think they have it and a standard Magic Chef cooker, and I think it's atypical Atwood Water Heater isn't anything special to cause this problem I certainly wouldn't buy any other!
