The cup warmer heats up... when there's no cup on it and you turn off the gravity switch. I measured over 300F. However, when using a Hotjo Travel Mug (the rubber seal is removed from the base), the warmer cannot keep my coffee hot - the energy output is just not enough. In comparison, a tea light gives off more than enough energy to boil my coffee in a mug.
