Purchased with the "Gatco 10006 Ultimate Diamond Toning System". Many say that it is not serious and unnecessary. It's true that there's no need to razor sharp your knives with Gatco's award-winning sharpening system. BUT it makes sharpening knives MUCH easier. Package and item Arrived in a molded plastic lid that mounts on top and has built in latches to remove the item inside. The product received was exactly as pictured. This item appears to be made of very durable plastic and has comfortable soft plastic handles that resemble finger grips. Purpose of use. To rate it fairly, I sharpened my Gerber Para knife without using the mount first. It was easy, but my large hands had a little trouble finding a comfortable grip for it. After completing my first Gerber, I moved on to my other Para knife, this time with a binding. It was a lot nicer and I found I made the knife a lot quicker since I didn't have to adjust the holder in my hand as much. Anyone else new to this system has to go through multiple bricks with 8-10 passes all the way down the blade - on both sides. So that's 20 passes per stone on the knife. Conclusion To me, having spent $78 on a Gatco sharpening system, the $7-8 per mount is worth it. You don't have to buy any other accessories besides various stones, so under $10 for something that will probably last longer than stones is great. Keep in mind that you don't really need a fixture, but if you're going to do a full regrind you'll be using four stones of 20 passes each, so you'll be making 80 passes per knife to sharpen it. That's a lot of reconfiguration if you're not using a mount.
