I read the instructions and started using them without questioning if they worked or not. A week after testing the water daily (because I was still trying to find the right tank water chemistry) I noticed that the readings were the same. every time. This should be my first clue that they weren't working, but the reviews were decent. However, by the end of the week, my best fish looked very sick. I also bought a Tetra heater (also a terrible product) which never really heated the water. Although the Tetra test strips indicate that all levels are suitable (nitrate safety 20, nitrite safety 0, water hardness 150, chlorine safety 0, alkalinity ideal 120 and pH neutral 7.2), my best fish looked so sick, pale and barely moving, just standing on the water surface. I knew I had to change the water. I did a 100% water change and noticed that the tetra heater was also covered in an oily substance which was odd and could be the reason my fish got sick. Anyway, I put him in a new aquarium with newly treated water. I decided to test the Tetra test strips in tap water to see if they would detect chlorine (which is strong in LA tap water) and it showed it at zero! So I tested the new fish water and the old water, both showed the same.
