Review on ⚡ Schumacher BAF-C50 High-Amp Clamps for Efficient Battery Charging and Testing by Hector Smith

It needs to be soldered to make a good contact.

My 35 year old Schumacher charger works perfectly except the wires are starting to break off the original clips. Bought these Schumacher clamps as a replacement. In fact, they seem a bit more powerful than the originals. However, the design seems to have changed over the years. The original clamps had two gripping areas, one to firmly grip the wire insulation and a smaller gripping area further in the clip to grip the bare wire. The new clamps have two clamping areas next to each other, but the inner ones are adjusted in such a way that the force of the clamp alone cannot adequately grip the stripped wire. So I used two end clamps to firmly clamp the wire insulation. Then I tinned the wire and soldered it to the inside of the terminal. This is relatively easy to do as the copper plating is easily absorbed by the solder, but the buyer should be aware that soldering is probably the best method of connecting the bare wire to the terminal.
