I have a 10" vise and they are certainly beefy. I would like to add because I saw another review about it: These vises are designed so the jaws are not parallel, this is not a defect of the vise. Once installed, fitted with the maple chops and set up correctly, everything turned out exactly as I expected. Not the best quality, but not the worst either. Good middle of the road. I disassembled the vise to install it on my workbench, otherwise it would take 2 people. rods and screws. The screw comes out separately and then you can slide out the rest of the front of the vise. the lowest setting, it's no big deal, but it's a rough piece of cheap steel. And the clamp screw was bent. I just removed it as I won't be using much, I can make one out of wood. Be careful choosing screws when installing the chops, the back is thicker than the front, I overlooked that and the screws stuck through the front chops. A thicker stock would have helped too, but I just used the trim. Overall it works as it should, the quick release works well, the slide isn't too harsh and the screw is pretty smooth, there's a bit of side to side play but not a deal breaker. All in all I think it will be a good vise if taken care of.
